Reason: <em>Apiocera bilineata</em> is found in several sand dune areas in the Chihuahuan Desert, mostly in the border region of New Mexico and Chihuahua. It has been recorded just once in the last 40 years, though survey effort in the region has been minimal. Based on known occurrences, the estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) could be as much as 114,000 km<sup>2</sup>, though occurrences in northern and eastern New Mexico are outside what is thought to be suitable habitat and therefor they may not be valid. Therefore, the EOO could be as little as 1,300 km<sup>2</sup>. The are of occupancy (AOO) could be 32-40 km<sup>2</sup>, given the number of known occurrences. While this is likely underestimated due to lack of survey effort, given the habitat specificity of the species, AOO is unlikely to be over 2,000 km<sup>2</sup>. There is only one collection record in the last 40 years, so there many be as little as one location if the species is not extant across the historical range. The main threats are habitat instability and increased drought due to climate change, which will likely impact each locality separately. There may also be as many as ten locations, if records from northern and eastern New Mexico turn out to be valid. Continuing decline in quality of habitat is also inferred based on the aforementioned threats. Due to the possibility of having just one location and with only one point known in the last forty years the species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico however, a reassessment should be done if more information becomes available.
