Reason: This species is known only from the Mimbres Mountains, in southwestern New Mexico. It has been collected only three times at two proximate localities, in xeric foothill, pine-oak woodland habitat, at about 2,000 meters in elevation. This species is likely ground nesting and may specialize on the pollen of plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae). The threats are not well understood, though increased wildfire severity and drought due to climate warming are likely threats. The extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) could be as low as 2 km<sup>2</sup>, as the species is known from just two localities, within 2 km of each other. However, given the lack of survey effort, this is likely underestimated. If the species is found across the Black Range, the EOO could be as much as 5,000 km<sup>2</sup>, and the AOO greater than the 2,000 km<sup>2</sup> threatened threshold. Until additional occurrences are discovered, the species is considered to be found in just one occurrence, where severe catastrophic wildfire is likely the most consequential threat. Continuing decline in quality of habitat due to increasing drought and long term fire suppression practices is inferred. As a result, this species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico. However, a reassessment should be completed if more information becomes available.
