| Reason: Plagiomimicus astigmatosum is a moth in the family Noctuidae, found in Lincoln county New Mexico, in the southwestern United States.Additional surveying may reveal it in Otero county as it is known from adjacent areas of Arizona however, the Arizona population has not been observed for many years. The species has been recorded very few times, though survey effort in the region has been minimal. Currently this species is only known from one occurrence and so has a very small Extent of Occurrence and Area of Occupancy. These numbers may increase if increased survey effort reveals new additional occurrences. Each occurrence for this species would likely be independently impacted by the inferred threats of increased drought, invasive species, and grazing pressure. However, as currently only one is known for the state this could quickly cause declines. A continuing decline in habitat quality is also inferred for this species, due to the potential impact of these threats on host plant availability. Therefore, until additional information is available, this poorly understood species is assessed as S1 in New Mexico. |
