Reason: Rumpp’s Tiger Beetle (<em>Cicindela fulgida rumppi</em>) occurs solely in the Estancia Basin saline playas of Torrance county, New Mexico. This restricted range gives the subspecies an Extent of Occurrence (EOO)of just 226km<sup>2</sup> however, due to its extremely specialized habitat needs it has an Area of Occupancy (AOO) is just 8km<sup>2</sup> when calcualted using 1km2 by 1km2 grid cells. Histirocally Rumpp's tiger beetle has only ever been found in three occurrences. Its entire range is threatened by drought, cattle grazing, and water diversion and it has no protection on the primarily private land where it occurs. Collectors have reported finding less in the wild meaning a decline is likely being observed. This subspecies has a inferred continual decline in the quality and extent of its habitat as the southwest continues to get drier and water conflicts get more extreme. Considering the diminishing small range and as well as the unmitigated threats, Rumpp’s Tiger Beetle is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico. However, more research is still needed on this tiger beetle and if new information becomes available a reassessment should be done.
