Reason: The Prairie Sphinx Moth (<em>Euproserpinus wiesti)</em> is a sand dune and sand prairie habitat specialist, found in the western United States. The main threats of drought, livestock grazing, pesticide use, and habitat loss due to oil and gas development may impact each locality separately. However, some neighboring localities may be impacted simultaneously if threats, such as severe drought, happen to cover a larger area in any given threat event. This might result in as few as ten locations. Continuing decline in habitat quality is also inferred for this species, due to these threats. Therefore, the species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico.
