General Description

Southern Redbelly Dace (Phoxinus erythrogaster) is a small (7 cm) fish that occurs predominantly in the Midwest of the U.S. In New Mexico they occur in the Mora River, especially in Coyote Creek and the tributaries feeding Black Lake. They can be found in upland and spring-fed streams with clear water and shade and are absent in lowlands. They become sexually mature within the first year and are thought to live up to three years.
