| Reason: Ilavia Hairstreak (Satyrium ilavia) is a specialist on Scrub Oak (Quercus turbinella) and lives in the foothills of the Mogollon Rim, in New Mexico and Arizona. Population size estimates and trends are currently unknown for this species. This species and its host plant are both susceptible to drought conditions which pose a major threat to this species. Currently this species has also been observed in very few localities just seven occurrences are currently determined for this species. Further surveying however, may reveal this species to be in more locations than is currently unknown. The extent and quality of this species habitat is also expected to continue to decline increased severity and incidence of drought reduce recruitment of the host plant. Additionally, catastrophic wildfire could wipe out this species' host plant in areas completely extirpating the species there in just a single generation depending on the extent of the fire. Therefore the species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico. |
