Reason: The Mogollon Snowfly (Capnia caryi) is a stonefly using montane streams in the Gila River watershed from eastern Arizona and western New Mexico as habitat. The population size and trend is not known though, efforts should be made to determine this.This species has a small Extent of Occurrence and Area of Occupancy. This stonefly is known from just one occurrence, and will experience an inferred continuing decline in area, extent and quality of habitat due the western United States continuing to get hotter and drier due to climate change. Very little is known about the species’ ecology but as a stonefly this species relies on water as habitat for the first stages of its life, extreme drought would result in the rapid extinction of the species. As a Small Winter Stonefly rising temperatures from climate change is a concern as warmer temperatures disrupt montane stream’s flow and snow melt. There is only one location record for this species but it is not known if the lack of occurrence data is due to the species rarity or a lack of effort for collection. Until more information is available, this species is listed as S1 in New Mexico. However, a reassessment should be done as new information becomes available.

Area of Occupancy: There is only one known occurrence in New Mexico in Upper Iron Creek (Baumann and Jacobi 2002, GBIF.org 2024). Iron Creek is a small tributary of the Middle Fork of the Gila River, southeast of Reserve in the Gila National Forest. Although there is likely other occurrences in the Gila where there is suitable habitat.	Threat Summary: N/A
