| Reason: Curro's Amphipod (<em>Stygobromus curroae</em>) is known only from one locality in hyporheic groundwater beneath Gallinas Creek, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. Very little is known about its populations, habitats and ecology, and threats, and it is known if it has been collected since it was described in 1994. It is quite possible this species is threatened with extinction, as AOO and EOO may be as little as 1 km2, it could be found in just one occurrence(at the type locality), and the habitat may be continuing to decline due to groundwater disturbance. However, due to a lack of monitoring, it is unknown whether there are in fact threats to the species. Given this uncertainty, more research is needed but until more information becomes available this species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico. |
