Reason: The Orange Giant-Skipper (<em>Agathymus neumoegeni</em>) is a resident in upper Sonoran zone canyons and mid-elevation mountains in Arizona, New Mexico, and West Texas. The population size and trend are not known for this species, though it has only been recorded once in the last decade, and few times overall. Historically, the species is known from at least 9 localities. Due to lack of survey effort, the AOO for this butterfly is likely underestimated. However, given the limited distribution and habitat requirements of the species, it is unlikely that the AOO is large. Continuing decline in the area and quality of habitat is inferred, due to increased incidence and severity of drought, which may limit water availability and host plant availability. Therefore, the species is considered S2 in New Mexico at this time. However, additional information on current distribution, population, and threats is needed to better understand the conservation status of this species.
