Reason: Adopaeoides prittwitzi also known as the Sunrise Skipper is a specialist on the few remaining cienegas and upland marshes in southwestern New Mexico. This species has undergone widespread declines due to a variety of threats including spring capping, wetland draining, agriculture, grazing, drought, flooding, and inbreeding depression. These declines are expected to continue and worsen with climate change as this area gets drier and warmer over the current century. This will further stress these already small and isolated populations which are not currently in large enough habitat patches to very well resist this threat for long before inbreeding depression finishes them off. This species also has a small range and an extremely localized distribution within it with an Area of Occupancy of just 64km2 and an Extent of Occurence of 23km2. This species has also already extirpated from many sites and its area of occupancy and extent of occurrence are also expected to keep declining as more subpopulations vanish.. As a result, the species has currently been assessed as S1 in New Mexico. However, a reassessment should be done if more information becomes available.
