| Reason: The Animas Limnebius Minute Moss Beetle (Limnebius aridus) is a beetle with one occurrence record in the Animas mountains, in Hidalgo county, New Mexico. The population size and trend is not known though, efforts should be made to determine this. The beetle’s one occurrence record is from 1952 and it has not been recorded since. With so few occurrences very little is known about the beetle’s habitat and ecology. The entirety of this beetle’s range is thought to be the Animas mountains which is exclusively private land. Existing on private land is not inherently a threat to the species but may cause challenges, such as a restriction of access for research. It is not known if the lack of occurrence data is due to the species’ rarity or lack of access for collection. Until more information is available, this species is assessed as S1 in New Mexico. However, a reassessment should be done as new information becomes available. |
