Reason: The Canyon Green Hairstreak (Callophrys affinis apama) is an endemic to the Mogollon Rim in southwestern New Mexico and southeastern Arizona. More research is needed on this butterfly however, many threats are already facing this taxon including climate change, ecological succession, which are reducing the quantity and quality of habitat for this butterfly. This butterfly also likely exists in a metapopulation dynamic on mountaintops which are small and vulnerable to environmental stochasticity as well as inbreeding depression. As a narrow high elevation endemic this butterfly also has a small Area of Occupancy (AOO) of just 28km<sup>2</sup>. This butterfly is also highly threatened by catastrophic wildfires and fire suppression.. As a result, the Canyon Green Hairstreak is currently assessed as S2 in New Mexico. It is currently listed as such however, there are some gaps in our knowledge about this butterfly and efforts should be made to more thoroughly research the population dynamics, size, and trends as well as the threats to this taxa and its host plant. If more information does become available than a reassessment should be done.
