Reason: Stanford’s Blue (Euphilotes stanfordorum) is a resident to Pinyon-Juniper woodlands in the four corners region of the southwestern United States. The population size and trend are not known for this species although efforts should be made to determine this information in light of the threats to this species and its host plant. Additionally, this species is only known from three occurrences using all known records in New Mexico. This butterfly also has an inferred continuing decline in the quality or extent of its habitat due to inferred declines in its host plants population resulting from climate change. As a result, the Stanford’s Blue is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico however, a reassessment should be done if more information becomes available.
