Reason: <em>Chionodes bustosorum</em> is a moth in the family Gelechiidae, that is endemic to New Mexico in the United States. It has been recorded very few times, though survey effort in the region has been minimal. The White Sands dune field, where most of the records of this species are is threatened by instability due to extensive groundwater extraction in the Tularosa Basin. The threats at the Salinas Pueblo missions are not well understood, though they may include increased incidence of drought and loss of host plant due to competition with invasive species. Continuing decline in habitat quality is also inferred for this species, due to the threats of habitat instability and increased incidence of drought due to climate change. Therefore, until additional information is available, this poorly understood species is assessed as S1 in New Mexico.
