| Reason: Poecilognathus scolopax is a bee fly in the family Bombyliidae. It has been recorded most frequently in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas, in the United States, though it has been suggested the species occurs in 12 other states in the central and western United States and Mexico. Based on more recent collection records this species has an Extent of Occurrence of just 498km2 in New Mexico and an Area of Occupancy of 3km2. These numbers may increase if increased survey effort reveals additional occurrences. The species is considered to be found in three occurrences currently. Known threats are localized in nature, driving host plant declines, so each known locality represents its own location. A continuing decline in EOO and AOO is inferred due to the lack of collection records from many historical collection localities. Therefore, until additional information is available, this poorly understood species is assessed as S1 in New Mexico. |

| Area of Occupancy: An Area of Occupancy of 3km2 was calculated using all known occurrence points in New Mexico. However, this number likely represents an underestimate as little to no surveying has been done for this species. | Threat Summary: N/A |
