| Reason: Schinia zuni is a rarely collected flower moth native to the northern portion of the Arizona-New Mexico borderlands, east towards north-central New Mexico, in the United States. It has been recorded very few times, though survey effort in the region has been minimal. This species has only been recorded in about 8 localities. If each is impacted individually by localized threats, such as drought, livestock grazing and invasive species, it may take eight threatenening effects to drive the species to extinction. However, the threat of drought, for example, may impact larger regions, and therefore neighboring occurrences may be impacted simultaneously by one particularly severe or prolonged. This may result in many fewer threats being necessary to drive the species extinction. Continuing decline is also inferred for this species, due to the aforementioned threats. Therefore, until additional information is available, this poorly understood species qualifies as S2 in New Mexico. |
