| Reason: Icaricia icarioides sacre also known as the Sacred Boisduval's Blue is a narrow endemic to the Sacramento and Capitan mountains in southern New Mexico. This butterfly has a wide variety of potential threats most prominently climate change, fire suppression, and inbreeding depression but is also affected by catastrophic wildfire, grazing, recreation, phenological mismatch and extreme weather events. This butterfly is currently only known from two locations when fire suppression is used as the threat, these being the top of Sierra Blanca and the crest of the Capitan Mountains. This butterfly also has a very small range, extent of occurrence (EOO), and area of occupancy (AOO). This butterfly also has an expected continuing decline in the extent and quality of its habitat. As a result, this butterfly has currently been assessed as S2 in New Mexico. However, a reassessment should be done if more information becomes available. |
