Reason: Cockerell's Bumble Bee is a bumblee bee species endemic to New Mexico's Sacramento Mountains. As a high elevation endemic this species has a low Extent of Occurrence of just 624km2 and a small Area of Occupancy which is just 13km2. Furthermore, the species is only known from 11 occurrences although a reasonable lower bound could be as small as six occurrences. Furthermore, the species is highly threatened by cliamte change, fire suppression, catastrophic wildfire, and widespread pesticide use. In such a limited range any of these threats could cause the extinction of the species in a relatively small time frame. As a result, this species is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico however, a reassesment should be done if more information becomes available.
