| Reason: Spilomyia crandalli is a pollinating fly in the Syrphidae family. It is found in montane habitats of New Mexico and Arizona. Little is known about this poorly studied species. There is only one known occurrence point in New Mexico which may indicate rarity however, there has been little to no research on this species. This species could potentially have a restricted area of occupancy and extent of occurrence making it so one threat could quickly drive it to extinction. Currently the threats to this species are not understood but there are many possible threats possible in the range. In addition, it has not been confirmed in New Mexico since 1994, so surveys are needed. Research on distribution, population size and trend, and threats is also needed to ensure populations are stable. With no records in the last thirty years and only one occurrence ever in New Mexico at this time the species rank is calculated as S1 however, a reassessment is needed if more information becomes available. |
