Reason: The Sacramento Mountains White-lined Hairstreak (<em>Callophrys sheridanii sacramento</em>), is a very poorly known endemic butterfly from the Sierra Blanca and Sacramento Mountains of southern New Mexico. This butterfly has only been seen three times in the last thirty years, and it has not been recorded since 2002. It also has a very low Extent of Occurence and Area of Occupancy. If considering only occurrences from the last thirty years, the EOO could be as low as 12 km<sup>2</sup>. While the current distribution is not well understood, the best estimate for the number of occurrences is two to five. The three records taken most recently, are from two general localities. Each of these localities is threatened by the main threats of wildfire and habitat loss due to climate change, among other threats. For example, it would take just two catastrophic wildfires could impact all recently observed colonies, as there have been several large wildfires near these localities in the past few years. When all historic localities are considered, about five potential colonies are possible. Continuing decline in the extent and quality of habitat is inferred, due to the aforementioned threats of climate change and wildfire risk, as well as increased drought and pesticide use. As a result, the Sacramento Mountains White-lined Hairstreak is currently assessed as S1 in New Mexico.
