| Reason: The Organ Mountains Hairstreak (Satyrium polingi organensis) is found along steep talus slopes of the Organ and San Andres Mountains, in southeastern New Mexico. Population size estimates and trends are currently unknown for this taxon, though there are a wide variety of potential threats to this taxon, however, the impact of these threats are not currently well understood. This taxon is a very narrow endemic known only from two adjacent mountain ranges and with an extent of occurrence of just 385 km2. This narrow distribution puts this taxon at risk and magnifies the several known threats to the taxon. As such S.p. organensis has retained its ranking as S1 upon review. |
